Tales they devour

A personal photography and cooking project that started out with my growing passion for reading, and not really knowing where to put the inspired creative energy I felt after finishing a really good book. It’s a driven motivation to recreate something out of a story that engaged me, and a feeling of wanting to keep a little part of it carried in my mind for a little while longer. And since I also like dabbling in cooking (though I might not be amazing at it), I enjoy new recipes and interesting ideas as well as the delicious world of food photography. So below are a few of my ideas and work that I’ve published on the instagram page dedicated to my project. You can also click on the instagram icon above to see the full page.

Outlander

Featured in this picture is the Scottish drink called Atholl Brose that was originally created in 1475

The war of lost Hearts

These are shortbread cookies made of lilac and oranges inspired by the book’s protagonists and their memories of each other.

Pachinko

The reason I chose Pajeon (savory korean pancake with a green onion base) is because, firstly, Jeon is one of the most popular dishes in Korea. Secondly, in the book, Pajeon is mentioned in a very key scene where the modern westernized Korean who has lived with all the privileges of a better quality of life, meets the soul of the story, Sunja who came from very humble traditional beginnings. It feels like a monumental moment, the point where history catches up to today, and how everything that happened has shaped our future.

Outlander

Brose pudding is mentioned several times in the books but I’m not sure if Cranachan is, however it is still a famous Scottish dessert from the era of Outlander and basically has the same ingredients as Brose pudding minus the raspberries.
